I can't believe I've planted my own veggie garden, well it may not be consider a "garden" it's so small. Last year I tried tomato plants but didn't have much success, so this year I decided to have Larry roto-till out by the barn where Sharah's horse use to be. The grass grows very thick and healthy there, so my tomatoes should too ( I hope) I planted them about a week ago, then got to thinking that I'd like to try planting some seeds. Yesterday I bought lettuce, summer squash (goose neck squash), and sunflower seeds. I planted the lettuce by the tomato plants and the squash by the creek, just on the other side of the stone wall. I also put some lettuce seeds in a pot by the wall...have to see if they survive. Wish me luck...I'm sure I'll be checking for the first sign of growth and first tomato.

First Camping Trip for 2008
Moffett's Beach State Campsite in Speculator NY.
This is one of favorite places to camp and it's only about 25 miles north of us. With the gas prices as they are, we just might not go too far from home when we camp this year. Moffett's Beach is on Lake Sacandaga (not to be confused with the Great Sacandaga Lake), which you can see in the background of the picture below. We love to kayak around the lake, but this time we didn't take our kayak's because the water was still very cold. We did take our bikes though and did some biking in the campsite
Traditionally Larry has to find a big log and as it burns, little by little he pushes it into the fire until it's all consumed. (Previously cut or fallen down and legal to use) We burned this for the 2 days we were there and when we left, there was only about 10" of it left.Friday, June 6, 2008
UNCLE JOSH PERFORMS AT HISTORICAL SALTSMAN'S HOTEL
Uncle Josh (AKA as my husband, Larry) was invited for the second year in a row, to perform at the Shine's annual dinner. Last year it was in St. Johnsville, NY. Those who don't know the character Uncle Josh, Larry (in charactor) tells humorus 100 yr old stories
that were told my Cal Stewart a century ago
The food was served family style and was exceptional.
In season they are noted for serving Milk Weed Greens and Elderberry pie.

A Bit of History:
Saltsman's Hotel, located at the Junction of Routes 67& 10, in the village of Ephratah, has offered unique country style dining for almost 200 years. Built in 1813, Saltsman's is one of the oldest restaurants in New York State. When it was first built, with a dance floor (known as Apollo Hall) on the upper level, Saltsman's Hotel served as a coach stop along this busy farming route. Five generations of Saltsman's operated the inn between 1889 and 1979 when Jim and Tammie Subik purchased the restaurant. The guest book in the front parlor bears the signature of President-elect Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Other more recent notables who have dined at Saltsman's are Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller, white house press correspondent Helen Thomas, philanthropist Owen D. Young and all the way from Japan, the president of Nippon Steel.
